Amanda Taylor
Case Manager
 |
Amanda joined the practice from a previous career in the retail sector. We were fortunate to be able to recruit her with her impressive people skills and training. Her experience of life compliments those offered by the others in the team. She has trained, within the practice, in the area of prison law affecting life sentenced prisoners. This unique training is conducted by John Atkins who is recognised as being an authority on the subject. Amanda, in common with all of our practitioners at Atkins Law, attends external update training on a regular basis from a leading barrister in the field, Ms Flo Krause. In particular, Amanda is in an ideal position to be able to assist those people facing the rigours of review by the Parole Board. |
“I have been a case manager at Atkins Law for four years. In that time I have most enjoyed the contact with my clients and the opportunity to assist them. I have successfully dealt with a wide range of cases from the lifer sector of prison law.
My expertise focuses mainly on sex offenders who are located at HMP Shepton Mallet, HMP Usk and HMP Leyhill. I enjoy assisting my clients in this particular area because it is a difficult area and in my four years of working for Atkins Law I have helped a large number of sex offenders to be progressed quickly. Other prisons that I cover are the Vulnerable Prisoners Unit (VPU) at HMP Channings Wood and HMP The Verne. My other achievements at Atkins Law include assisting my clients on their release on life licence, together with all of the difficulties along the way to that. My skills from my previous career have been amply employed, as working with Prison Service professionals has to be a positive experience.
This goes to ensure that I can achieve the best possible results for my clients. People often ask me why I enjoy, or even work at all, in this sector with people who the Courts have sentenced to ‘life being forfeited to the state’. These are not popular people but they are people, and people matter to me. The most notable part of my working life is that the clients I deal with are usually very nice people whose lives have been changed by one tragic mistake, or set of circumstances. My philosophy of work is that my clients have been judged by the Courts and therefore it is not for anyone to then add further judgments. The law says what shall happen to life sentenced prisoners. My role at Atkins Law is to ensure that my clients are dealt with fairly and in a timely fashion. I work strenuously to achieve the very best outcomes for my clients.”
