Offending Behaviour Course Disputes

This is a highly charged area in the progress of any life sentence prisoner today.

Offending behaviour work and psychology has, for a number of years, been a massive growth industry within the prison system. The Government has provided huge amounts of hard cash, outside the usual budgets for prisons, to provide these courses.

In the year 2003-2004, some £6 million was spent on sex offender treatment programmes alone with almost that again being spent on other courses such as the Cognitive Self Change Programme (CSCP).

Not wishing to suggest that there is an element of job creation here, many life sentence prisoners find themselves completing one course, only to be told they need to do another.

Without specialist help from a lawyer qualified in the representation of life prisoners, it is very difficult indeed for a life prisoner to anticipate release within a reasonable time.

We at Atkins Law as specialist lawyers in the area of the life sentence within prison law have access to some of the most highly respected independent experts in the country and frequently have to refer to them. Our expertise allows our clients the best opportunity at Oral Hearings for example, or simply to progress.

This site could be filled with examples of how people have been disadvantaged, then their being denied progress on these grounds, seeing them spend an extra five or more years in prison.

We can assist and do frequently.
